And here’s the animation. Everything husky I’ve been working on for the past few weeks.

preferred writing pens vs. preferred sketching pens?

—  bewhy

Oh man, this question. I’m still exploring different options but recently I’ve settled into a groove:

Steadtler

Writing: After trying like $7 refillable copic fineliners and the like, I’ve found that the Steadtler Triplus Fineliner is by far the best and, inexplicably, the cheapest (by like 40% what the heck). It takes a lot longer to dry out than any other felt-tip fineliner I’ve tried and the ink is nice and dark and it’s triangle. The only thing is that it’s a bit too thin.

Sketching for me is divided among three pens of varying weight:

Pilot

Fine: Pilot Fineliner

Which is actually not a Micron-style fineliner; the tip is pointed. Basically, it lets me draw at like a 20º angle to the paper and still make a perfect dark black line, unlike a Micron (or, sadly, even the Steadtler after a couple weeks).

Papermate

Medium: Papermate Flair

Basically the Pilot, just with a heavier line. It also has a really nice matte finish on the outside and a flush, sleek shape. I am sad because my school art store doesn’t sell these so I have to import them from Amazonland.

Pentel

Bold: Pentel Sign Pen

I actually don’t use this that often but it’s really nice for ~3mm wide lines for outlining things or drawing really big.
